The Best & Easiest Bead

This is by far my favorite bread recipe ever!  It's so easy, and quick to make-- and you can alter it to have a million different kinds of bread.  No joke!  It is dairy free-- and can be made to be gluten-free if you know the right substitutes (I don't, so I'm sorry my gluten-free friends I don't have a gluten free variation for you)

I originally found this recipe on the blog "Making Things is Awesome", and tried it out and loved it.  I've since passed it along to several of the women in my family-- and now I'm going to pass it along to you, with several variations I've been trying.

Plain White
Printable Version

3 Cups of All-Purpose Flour
1 Teaspoon of Salt
1/2 Teaspoon of Yeast
1 1/2 Cups of water

Mix all the dry ingredients into a bowl, add water and mix well.  Cover and let sit for 12-18 hours.  YES, you have to do this.  The bread will rise to double it's original size!  I do this right before I go to bed, and then bake it in the morning.

Preheat the oven to 450-degrees.  While the oven pre-heats move dough from bowl to floured surface and shape it into a ball.  Cover with suranwrap until oven is pre-heated.  Place into a casserole dish with a lid-- that's what I used-- then back covered for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, remove lid and bake for 15 minutes uncovered.  Remove from bowl-- and dig in!

Plain Wheat

I love wheat bread!  So when I found this recipe, my first mission was to make a wheat version.  It's incredibly easy to make:

1 1/2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour
1 1/2 Cups of Wheat Flour

Garlic Bread
Printable Version

This version is perfect for any italian dinner.  And is smells delicious when it's baking.  You can choose to make the white or wheat version of bread and then add the garlic to it.  Completely up to you-- though the white version has more of a garlic taste.

Add 4-8 cloves of garlic chopped to the above recipe of your choice.

Seed Bread
Printable Version

We love this bread.  In fact, Jason's first words after eating a piece was, "I want to make love to this bread."  I was inspired by "The Good Seed" from Dave's Killer Bread.  Again, you can choose to make this bread with as the wheat version or the white version, then add:

1/4 Cup Sesame Seeds
1/4 Cup Flax Seed
1/4 Cup Chia Seeds
1/2 Cup of Sunflower Seeds
2 Tablespoons Honey

Herb Bread
Printable Version

I was wary of how good this would be when I made it-- but I shouldn't have been, because it's delicious! And it smells amazing while it bakes!  You can make a white or wheat bread version-- just know the white version will absorb more of the flavor.  Here's what you'll need to add:

3 Cloves of garlic, chopped
2 Tablespoons of Oregano
2 Tablespoons of Parsley
2 Tablespoons of Dill

Click on the printable version link for the full directions.

**This was by-far my favorite bread to sniff!  Just in case you were wondering!

Cheddar Bread
Printable Version

This is perfect for soups-- or just to chow down on.  It's got cheese in it, what more could you want?  Nothing as far as I'm concerned!  I've tried it with several types of cheese, but cheddar is by far my favorite.  I've also seen herbs or jalapenos added to this version.  Again, you can choose to make the wheat or white version of this.  Here's what you'll need to add:

1/2 to 1 Cup of cheese-- depending on how much you want.

Click on the printable version link for the full directions.

For any version of this bread, I use my favorite casserole dish to bake it in.  It's from Pyrex-- and is perfect for this bread, or mac & cheese, or really any casserole.  And it's less than $20!  I think I need to buy myself another one :)

Ok, enough raving about the damn casserole dish!  As you can see, there are several ways to change up this recipe-- so take it, and try it out.  I'd love you to post any new variations you've tried below!
